Workshop: The Travelling Pen x paper republic

Travel Writing — capturing places, memories and atmospheres on paper

We carefully plan our trips, dream about special places, take hundreds of pictures — and then return home with memories that often stay trapped in our phones.

The Traveling Pen is a creative writing workshop about slowing down and transforming travel memories into something tangible and personal.

1 – In the first part of the workshop, participants will work with photos from a recent trip, holiday or even a small weekend escape. Through simple and guided writing exercises, moments, atmospheres, details and emotions will be brought back to life on paper.

2 – In the second part, participants will discover easy analog rituals and travel journaling exercises to use during future trips — small creative practices to notice more, remember more and create meaningful memories while traveling.

No previous writing experience is needed.

Just bring a few photos (on your smartphone, or analogue, curiosity and the desire to reconnect with your experiences beyond the screen.

We travel three times: once when we plan, once when we live in, and when we remember it.

The method

I planned three sessions, using freewriting exercises and focusing on how to detect details, images and capture atmospheres on paper. The workshop is intended to help you find your way to take notes before you go, while you are experiencing your trip and after the journey. I also use methods from slow travelling and a mindful approach to discovering places and being in contact with their and your depht.
